Hutchinson Transport Ltd has joined the Solvents Industry Association as the business continues to build its work in solvent, chemical and specialist bulk liquid transport.

The SIA promotes the safe, sustainable and responsible use of chemical solvents, with a focus on sound science, best practice and regulatory awareness. For Hutchinson, membership places the business closer to the guidance, technical knowledge and industry relationships that shape the solvents supply chain.

Solvent transport relies on decisions being made before a tanker reaches the road. The product, loading point, receiving site, equipment, driver and delivery timing all have to be understood at the planning stage, where small details can have a significant effect on how the work is delivered.

Hutchinson’s position as a family-owned specialist tanker operator gives customers direct access to the people running the business. Rhys and Nathan Hutchinson are closely involved in the transport operation, workshop, drivers, fleet and customer discussions, following their management buyout completed in April 2026.

That involvement is important in specialist bulk liquid work, where customers often need quick answers, clear responsibility and confidence that the people making decisions understand the demands of the job.

Hutchinson works between producers, distributors and customer sites, so the business sees the pressures on every side of a solvent movement. The product has to be understood, the equipment has to be suitable, the site requirements have to be clear, and the delivery has to fit the customer’s operation.

Rhys Hutchinson said: “Joining the SIA reflects the direction Nathan and I are taking the business.

“We want Hutchinson to be close to the sectors we serve, the standards that shape them and the people working across the solvents supply chain.

“It also gives us the opportunity to contribute a transport operator’s view shaped by the road, the yard and the customer site.”

Bill Atkinson, Chief Executive of the SIA, added: “I’d like to welcome Hutchinson Transport to the SIA family. The transport of dangerous goods carries such a high responsibility and I admire and applaud Hutchinson’s dedication to safety.

“They will fit in well to our growing membership, and I look forward to working with them on a number of projects currently going through the SIA’s Technical Committee.”

Hutchinson looks forward to working with the SIA and its members as the business continues to build its role in solvent and specialist bulk liquid transport.
